Virtual Reality (VR)
-1- Project Virtual Transformation of the xR-Workshop into a Barista Workshop
This Mixed Reality (MR) application is designed for the virtual planning of interior spaces based on real-world room structures. Using depth sensors, the MR app enables 3D scanning of a physical room, allowing users to integrate and position virtual equipment such as devices, appliances, and furniture within the scanned environment.
- Real-time 3D Scanning: Captures the room layout with high accuracy using depth sensors.
- Virtual Object Placement: Enables users to add and arrange virtual equipment within the scanned space.
- Collision Detection & Distance Measurement: Ensures precise positioning by detecting interactions between real and virtual objects.
The MR app was developed by international students at the XR WORKSHOP of Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences, demonstrating innovative applications of XR technology in spatial planning and interior design.
-2- Project Mixed Reality App “visionFlowXR” for Pipe Laying Based on Real Room Structures
The “visionFlowXR” app is an innovative Mixed Reality (MR) solution that enables precise and interactive pipe laying based on real-world spatial structures. Using advanced 3D scanning technology, the app captures a highly detailed digital representation of a room, allowing users to plan and position pipes seamlessly within the scanned environment.
- High-Precision 3D Scanning: Accurately captures the room layout, including all structural details.
- Interactive Pipe Placement: Enables users to virtually lay pipes while considering real-world constraints.
- Material Library & Cost Calculation: Includes a catalog of different pipe materials with real-time pricing per meter.
- Optimized Planning & Evaluation: Allows easy comparison of different pipe-laying variants to find the most efficient solution.
- Resource & Cost Efficiency: Helps save time, materials, and labor costs—especially valuable in times of skilled labor shortages.
The “visionFlowXR” app was developed by international students at the XR WORKSHOP of Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences, showcasing the potential of MR technology in construction and infrastructure planning
-3- Project Immersive Forklift Control and Driving Training with VR
This Virtual Reality (VR) application provides an immersive and realistic training experience for forklift operation, enabling users to develop essential control and driving skills in a safe, simulated environment. The app detects operational and driving errors, offering real-time feedback and tracking training progress to improve performance.
- Realistic Forklift Simulation: Provides a highly immersive training environment for safe and effective learning.
- Error Detection & Feedback: Identifies control and driving mistakes, helping users refine their skills.
- Training Progress Tracking: Monitors and evaluates improvements over time.
The VR app was developed as part of the IC xR-P initiative by international students from Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland), and Institut Supérieur d’Informatique et de Multimédia de Sfax (Tunisia). The project is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung, fostering international collaboration in immersive technology research and development.
